Coverage & provenance
How the data is observed, labelled and bounded
Toktik turns persisted observations of public TikTok LIVE activity into analytics. The product covers a defined, expanding subset — not all of TikTok — and carries the limits beside the data.
The promise
Coverage follows what can be observed sustainably
The Coverage Set is the publicly stated subset of public TikTok data the platform actually observes and sells. LIVE Intelligence was the first tier; it now extends dataset by dataset as collection evidence supports it. Anything outside the set is not promised.
In coverage today
The datasets currently observed
Each dataset is public/anonymous only, carries provenance and a Coverage Status, and — where it concerns creators — honours durable suppression across every read.
LIVE session history
Retained LIVE session, gift, gifter and creator-performance history from observed rooms.
Rankings
Official Observed boards (published only after coverage passes the gate) and platform-Derived rankings.
Creator profiles
Continuously-refreshed public profiles — region, follower/following/video counts, verification, socials — with metric history.
Creator content
Public per-video metrics (plays, likes, comments, shares) with per-video history.
Trends
Public trending hashtags and sounds per region — a limited seed sample whose Coverage Status is at best ‘partial’, never a full TikTok trend index.
Collection
Public signals, disclosed access paths, explicit limits
Public data, mixed access paths
The declared Coverage Set is limited to public signals, but code-level public-only assertions across every collector are not yet complete. LIVE discovery and stream bootstrap are anonymous where available. Public following lists, rank boards and envelope lists use signed mobile requests backed by platform-managed device or account sessions — never a customer's login. Private data remains outside the sellable scope.
Bounded, switchable collectors
Every collector runs through a shared per-IP QPS + concurrency budget and a kill switch, off by default (ADR-008) — LIVE, rank, profile, content and trend collection each honour the same ceiling. Formal legal review of the overall access posture is still pending (see Open risk).
Persisted reads
Customer LIVE-history reads come from persisted observations. A refresh queues asynchronous work; the HTTP read path does not synchronously proxy TikTok.
Traceability
How to read provenance
- Source
- The observed dataset or collector that produced the record.
- Observed at
- When the underlying public signal was captured, not when this page was opened.
- Freshness
- Whether the persisted observation is near realtime, historical, or delayed.
- Coverage status
- Where the result sits relative to the Coverage Set. It is not a completeness guarantee.
- Methodology version
- The versioned projection or calculation used so derived results can be traced over time.
Per response
Coverage status has four explicit states
Observed
A matching, persisted observation is inside the current Coverage Set.
Partial
Some usable data exists, but the observation or requested window is incomplete.
Not covered
No matching persisted observation is currently in the Coverage Set.
Stale
The newest matching observation is older than the published freshness threshold.
Clear labels
Observed boards and platform calculations stay separate
Source-labelled
Official Observed Ranking
A reproduction of a board TikTok publishes, built from captured board snapshots. It is published only after its board coverage passes the stated gate and is not presented as Toktik's own ranking.
Method-labelled
Derived Ranking
A calculation Toktik makes from retained public observations. It carries a methodology version and is never labelled as an official TikTok ranking.
Creator choice
Retention is capped and suppression is durable
Historical depth is bounded by a hard retention cap, including enterprise plans. Retained LIVE data is not kept indefinitely.
When a creator's opt-out or deletion request is recorded, durable suppression removes retained LIVE history and prevents the collection pipeline from writing it back.
Current channel boundary: there is no public self-service removal endpoint in the current API. Suppression is operator-administered today; a public request channel must be published before commercial launch.
Open risk
Transparency is not legal immunity
TikTok terms-of-service and commercial-resale exposure remain consciously accepted open risks. Formal legal review is still pending and is required before public commercial launch. This disclosure records the operating posture; it does not claim those risks are solved.
Public creator data can still be personal data under privacy law. Public availability does not remove legal-basis, transparency, retention or deletion duties, including obligations that may apply under GDPR or CCPA.
Toktik is an independent product and is not presented as TikTok or as an official TikTok data service.
